Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Officers say they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered many other marked vehicles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public display of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement say initial examinations indicate the substance was probably human blood.
"At present there remains no indication as to where it came from; officials are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in association with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for information.
A high-ranking representative commented the vandalism left him without words and had to be solved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, recalling the death of nine victims by a gunman targeting people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
