The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Reveal a Fresh Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG to Date

The speculation around the recent awards show was significant, particularly after host Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is developing a brand-new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was showcased with a daring trailer packed with intense imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very descent into chaos.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian clarified that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

However, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team could be designing a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it sparked the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—traits that subsequently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with niche playthroughs you can achieve if you're playing as a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, enabling players to improvise both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be approached in multiple ways, often in lateral fashion.

  • You might find an answer because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a inventive way.

More to Come

It is these creative systems that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, players can look forward to a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
